Hi Mark, I was hoping someone else out here with vast Ford knowledge would chime in and answer you. My answer is that Ford keeps the original number around because they know there are quite a number of them still out in dealerships inventories. Sometimes a part number may go through a few changes in the same year. Your inventory may have three different numbers on the shelf that actually are all the same part. If just the new number were cataloged, you may not realize you have that OSI part in stock listed under other numbers, causing you to order a part you didnt need to. Yes, your in-house system would probably save you here, but you should also be able to rely on your parts catalog to have this information first. Thats my short answer. Would like to see if others could add to this? Thanks.
